Field Notes

New in from Freewheelers is this brilliant interpretation of the jacket that started it all; The Type I. This particular version is based on the early 1941 model and features details which have been an essential part of this jacket’s history for eighty years. Unlike later 1942 and 1944 models that completely stripped down the design, this 1941 iteration retains the pocket flap and classic hardware however uses simplified stitching throughout. This is the shortest cut of all the ‘type’ jackets and features a boxy shape, and a slight drop off of the shoulder.

A single chest patch pocket adorns the trucker’s pleated selvedge chest plate, and a cinch-back is included to bring the waist in to your preferred fit. The cuffs are riveted for durability and the jacket features reinforced buttons throughout. The denim is a comfortable 14oz selvedge, slightly darker than typical Freewheelers denim which is going to only look better the more you wear it. This is a beautiful interpretation of a timeless jacket and makes a great addition to any denim enthusiast’s wardrobe.

Garment Care

How to Wash
Step 1

When you’re ready to wash your jeans, button the fly and turn them inside out. Doing up the fly ensures the jeans maintain their shape, and turning them inside out avoids unwanted marks from the washing machine drum on the indigo.

Step 2

Place the jeans in your washing machine with neutral detergent, and set them on a non/low-spin wash at cold–20 degrees for raw, or up to 30 degrees for pre-washed. High spin may cause unwanted 'lightning fades', and washing too hot can cause excess shrinkage, so it’s important to follow these steps carefully!

Step 3

Once your jeans are done washing, hang them somewhere safe and allow them to air dry. Putting your jeans in a tumble dryer has a high chance of degrading the fabric and misshaping your jeans. Make sure wherever you hang them has proper drainage, as you’ll be expecting some indigo runoff.
